My First Beautiful Yarn: A Spinning Journey

One of the reasons I love yarn so much is seeing all the colors blend together, whether through weaving or crochet. You go to the store and the beauty of the yarn itself, the color combinations twisted together, the different textures of the fibers, and sheens from shiny silk to matted wool. Then I realized I could blend these colors myself into yarn. Making one of a kind color and texture combinations.

First thing to do was be surprised to find a spinning class so close to home at Peaceful Making in Kitty Hawk, NC. Here’s where to find them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61576013766474

These ladies are the most welcoming and friendly group. When I’m there it is like walking into a friends home, and I can tell others feel the same as they come in.

They sat me down in front of an e-spinner and away I went. When I was done I had a very colorful, twisted, thick and thin … yarn. I dare call it yarn, LOL. However, I knew I found my niche. I enjoy weaving and crocheting, but spinning was where I could play with color and that was what I loved so much about yarn. Now I got to do the coloring!!!

A couple months of playing and here is my first bundle of yarn I am truly proud of. Not sure what to call this colorway. Maybe you could help? Throw your thoughts in the comments. The main core is a mix of oranges and pink. The plied yarn goes from dark brown, fades to dark purple, light purple, then pink.

I am thinking of making a round pillow out of it. Crocheting it in the round so the colors can fade from one to the next in a spiral.
