A desert poem of faith, surrender, and finding God in emptiness
Scripture:
“I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
—Isaiah 43:19 (ESV)
Overwhelmed by Nothing
Overwhelmed by nothing.
If you walk too far, it will swallow you up.
What single step was the line crossed?
How many names have been lost to this dust?
The thoughts in my head scream loud in the quiet.
In this expanse, what does one soul matter?
God, my head knows You are near,
But in this vastness, my heart struggles to see.
A gentle reminder comes—
God has not abandoned this place.
A sign of life in the desert:
A fragile bloom defies the dust.
The greatness of this land
Is too small to hold my God.
And yet, somehow,
He dwells within my heart.
Never alone.
I surrender again.
My fears I lay down.
I lift my eyes to Him.
I breathe in His peace.
I whisper a prayer.
Like the wind that rises in the desert,
Lord, fill my life.

Reflection
Have you ever felt lost in a vast place—physically, emotionally, or spiritually?
The desert teaches us that emptiness isn’t the absence of God… sometimes, it’s the space He uses to meet us in new ways.
A Prayer
Lord, when the world feels too wide and my soul feels small,
remind me that You are never distant.
Let me see You in the stillness,
hear You in the silence,
and trust You in the unknown.
Amen.
