Scripture: Romans 1:18–20 (NKJV)
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”
Facing What We Often Ignore
We love to talk about God’s grace. His kindness. His patience.
But what about His wrath?
It’s a part of God’s nature we often overlook or quietly avoid. We prefer the comforting image of the loving Father—and yes, He is that—but Romans 1 reminds us that God is also holy, righteous, and just. His wrath is not uncontrolled anger; it is the rightful, holy response to sin and rebellion.
God’s wrath is revealed against ungodliness—a life lived with no reverence for Him—and unrighteousness—a willful violation of His divine law. These are not just ancient concepts. They are painfully present in today’s world.
A Question That Confronts Us
Not long ago, my dad asked a question that I haven’t been able to forget:
“If we really believe what the Bible says—if we believe there’s a hell—why aren’t we telling everyone about Jesus?”
That hit hard.
If we believe God’s wrath is real, that eternity is at stake, how can we stay silent?
If we understand the gravity of this passage, we wouldn’t be able to sit still. It would ignite an urgency in our souls—a holy fire to share the gospel with everyone we meet.
But too often, we’re comfortable. And comfort has made us complacent.
While we sit in comfort, many are dying and learning the truth of hell.
The World Is Without Excuse
Paul makes this startlingly clear: No one has an excuse.
Why? Because God has made Himself known through what He has created.
Go outside and look. Really look.
The intricate design of life—the way ecosystems work in perfect balance, the harmony between humanity and nature—points unmistakably to a Creator.
- Trees give us oxygen; we give them carbon dioxide.
- Flowers rely on bees, and bees rely on flowers.
- Everything works together, by design—not by chance.
This kind of order doesn’t evolve by accident.
It’s a divine signature on the fabric of the world.
Creation testifies—God is real. God is powerful. God is present.
And because of that, no one can say, “I didn’t know.”
The Call: From Comfort to Courage
So what now?
If we believe this passage—really believe it—we can’t remain passive.
We are called to act. To speak. To witness.
Yes, it may stretch us. Yes, it may cost us comfort.
But eternity matters far more than convenience.
While we sit in comfort, many are dying and learning the truth of hell.
Will we remain in comfort, or will we rise up in courage to share the truth?
Reflect & Respond
- Have you avoided thinking about God’s wrath? Why do you think that is?
- How has creation personally revealed God to you?
- Who in your life needs to hear the gospel? What is stopping you from telling them?
Prayer
Lord, help me to see You fully—not just in Your mercy, but in Your holiness. Let the truth of Your Word stir me from complacency. Give me eyes to see Your glory in creation and a heart that burns with urgency for the lost. Help me to speak boldly, love deeply, and live faithfully. May I never grow numb to what matters most. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thanks for reading, friends.
I pray this passage doesn’t just stir your thoughts but moves your heart. I’d love to hear what God is showing you through it—let’s keep encouraging each other to live boldly in His truth and love.
