I was going to update every week, but with getting everything setup and then a snowstorm, it just didn’t happen. So here we are about 2 weeks into RV life. We are on a private lot nestled into the woods and are able to hook into our own power, water, and septic. This has been awesome as we love our privacy. I love people, but I am definitely an introvert and need to have plenty of time away from the outside world to recharge my social battery. How have these first 2 weeks been? A little up and a little down.

The good, the bad, and the ugly….

Living in a small place is not that bad. It’s quick to clean up and it has everything we need plus some. Sometimes the little squeeze in areas are slightly annoying, but nothing to let bother me. Getting the exterior setup was the best. I have my own little corner of the lot for the RV, my She Shed and a yard with fire pit. It looks off into the woods and wetland area. My husband has the rest for all his work equipment and tools.

I like how close to the outdoors it feels. And NO STEPS! Okay there are 3, but that is nothing compared to flight and a half I’ve been having to go up just to get to the house. Living on Hatteras Island means living in the air. With my bad knees and rheumatoid arthritis 3 steps is much better. Just step out and enjoy the outdoors. It is one of the things that I wanted with this style of living. To be better connected and out in nature. I can’t wait to get some garden beds going this Spring.

Cooking has been easier than I thought it would. I thought there would be more of a learning curve with a RV stove compared to a standard house stove, but there really isn’t. Just make smaller batches. Which works for us now that it is just the hubby and I.

But, what is the bad and the ugly? The only thing that really bothers me is the shaking. When my husband comes a walking this place is rocking. Okay, I’m sure with me too but he doesn’t complain. He got me a bit dizzy with it one day, so that is something I hope my equilibrium can get use too.

Figuring out the black tank and flushing it correctly has been the biggest struggle and would be the ugly. I think we got it figured out though now. It did take a couple weeks and multiple tries to feel like we were doing it right and not having “stuff” left behind. We’ll leave the imagery at that.

I worried about the cold the first week we were here. We had a January snowstorm hit the island and I wondered if the RV could handle it. She did! Well insulated undercarriage so nothing froze. The outside hose did freeze once right at the end, but was easy to thaw. The floor was rather cold and led me to buy a nice warm pair of slippers, but the temperature stayed in the 70s with a couple electric heaters running (safely).

However, we are now enjoying some temporary warmer weather. One day it reached 73 degrees at the beginning of February, so that was a nice recovery from the snowstorm. We enjoyed an evening around the fire pit together.
